The Oak and The Acorn Carolyn V. G. Koesters is a full-time writer and is grateful for the opportunity to connect people all over the world through her words. She has been journaling since the age of 7 and discovers her own creativity not only through her writing but also with journal-making, yoga, ballroom dancing and other artistic paths. She recently has created a workshop called "The Power of Writing" that empowers people to use journaling and personal writing to manifest change in their life through many techniques, called "Wishwriting". Carolyn's new monthly column found here at motheri.com, is called "The Oak and The Acorn" and will focus on creativity and the many ways to invite creativity to come and play in women's hearts and lives every day. Creativity has a hundred voices. It shouts and it whispers. It creeps in the unlikeliest of places and surprises like a shooting star. It hides when you are expecting it and may be frightened when you demand its presence. However, like a small hand clasped inside the grasp of a larger one, with careful encouragement and expectant trust, you will learn to hear the voice of Creativity all around you. As you have developed a technique for keeping one eye or ear out for your children, also try to develop a sense of awareness for nurturing your spirit. Try to first recognize when creativity is present, then you can decide what to do with it. Be ready to listen. Pay attention to any moment that feeds your soul. As moms in the millennium age we may not always have the time or resources to always be heading off to the newest art exhibit or attending nature lectures. The joy of discovering the Creative Voice is that it is everywhere. It is like the hum of the earth or the waves crashing on the shore. We just have to attune to it. How do we do this? We can try new things. As you drive, listen to a symphony instead of the DJ chatter. If you are alone- let the music be an invitation to connect, to listen. If you are with your children, engage them in a game of Symphony Speak- what is the music telling you? How does it make your children feel? How does it make you feel? We attract creative impulses by being open and accepting. Every day is an opportunity to remember this. Accept the weather as it is- sunny or cloudy. Accept the line you are presently in- take the time to tune in or try to find where the creativity is in this moment. Accept the day as it is- Fridays come soon enough. Enjoy a Monday. Accept the gift of your breath- the essential creative spark within. Each moment, each breath, is a chance to listen for the voice of creativity. Where will you find it today?
